Jewelry Care Guide
for a piece that shines through all of life’s adventures
What is Gold Fill?
Gold filled is a layer of actual gold bonded to another high quality metal like brass which makes it water friendly, hypoallergenic and tarnish resistant. It has 100x more gold than gold plating, must be 5% gold by volume, does not flake or turn colors. It is the best alternative to solid gold. The metal is also refineable meaning there is less overall waste.
What is Yellow Gold?
Yellow gold is an alloy made by blending gold with copper and zinc. The higher the karat (9k, 14k, 18k, 24k), the more pure gold, the deeper the yellow hue and the softer your piece. Gold can last generations so we recommend that you remove it before exposure to chemicals and high impact activities to protect it.
what is sterling silver?
.925 Sterling silver is an alloy made from silver (92.5%) and another metal like copper, brass or very rarely nickel (7.5%). Sterling silver oxidizes when exposed to air which means your silver will tarnish over time by turning darker and losing its shiny luster. Despite this, it will never flake and is safe to wear in water. Scroll down to learn how to care for your sterling silver piece.
What is Gold Vermeil?
Gold vermeil (ver-may) is a layer of gold electroplated over sterling silver. It will eventually tarnish and turn silver but is considered water friendly. This is a better investment than gold plated jewelry.
What is Gold Plated?
Gold plating is a thin layer/one micron of gold electroplated onto a base metal. This has the tendency to flake over time. It is waterproof until the layer of gold wears away. The gold on plated jewelry is not “recyclable” via a refining process like with gold fill or gold.
What about Gemstones?
We use natural gemstones from all over the world, lab grown gems as well as some synthetic stones (these will be noted in product descriptions).
